There once was a man who had lost his way from home. This is what happened.
He had set out to go hiking one day in a section of forest near his home and, spending some hours on the trails in the woods, he lost his sense of direction. The day was extremely hot, he had drank all of his water up. He felt as if he was walking in circles. The trees hovered over him and he could not tell the direction of the sun. As it got darker, things seemed even worse to him. He called out but nobody heard him. His energy was fading. He was succumbing to exhaustion and thirst. Again, he cried out. The only thing that he heard was the small voice inside his head telling him to keep going. But he quietened this voice and, instead, lay down in a cleared stretch of trail and went to sleep. Another hiker found him the next day.
He had died.
The rescue team that carried him away was heard saying, “If he would have just kept going. He was only 1/4 mile from his home, right through the trees.”
This is a sad story* and one that has a common story line—-NEVER GIVE UP.
Sometimes we feel as if we have lost our way. We cry out to those around us. We cry out to God. We feel as though nobody hears us and could possibly know our pain.
However, that small voice inside telling us to keep going is the one that we need to listen to. We shouldn’t take the path of least resistance, lay down on the cleared path in the woods and give up, oftentimes breathing our last and final breath.
Instead, may we all listen to that voice inside saying, “Never give up. Keep going. You’re going to make it.” Because sometimes, the road to home is so very close. Just because we can’t see it does not mean it’s not there. Sometimes the answer to our situation is just a few steps away.
Here are some quotes that remind us to never give up. Memorize them for that very time or day you may need to be reminded. Nobody is immune from feeling discouraged at times. We must remember that this, too, shall pass.
Peace and love,
“Never, never, never give up.”—Winston Churchill
“Survival can be summed up in three words – never give up. That’s the heart of it really. Just keep trying.”—Bear Grylls
“Fall seven times and stand up eight.”—Japanese Proverb
“The best way out is always through.”-—Robert Frost
“The only courage that matters is the kind that gets you from one moment to the next.”-—Mignon McLaughlin
